Look at Me (when i talk to you) is a
multi-movement work created in collaboration with choreographer
Lynn Neuman for Artichoke Dance.
In early 2005, choreographer Lynn Neuman approached me to provide
music for a new work to be performed by Artichoke Dance company.
The work delves into the nature of inter-personal relationships,
especially at the nexus of critical/cathartic moments. Being at a
comparable juncture regarding my relationship to composition, I
thought the collaboration with Lynn would be a fruitful one.
For the past number of years I have been working primarily writing
scores for live performers. Whilst I will continue to do so, I
have been re-evaluating my work with regards to creating "pure"
electronic music - something I had stopped doing in the mid-90's -
specifically electronica or dance music.
The current work is a departure for me in the sense that I am
combining various techniques of sound design/production and the
generation of musical material with newer computer-based
technology, while applying the more traditional tools and
processes of composition to these techniques. The musical goal is
to create work that is a synthesis of electronic and "acoustic"
(sample-based) sound, presenting a hybridization of electronic and
popular styles with forms derived and extended from the realm of
"classical" music, for lack of a better term.
